Foliations in Algebraic Geometry

Abstract: Foliations appear in many different areas of mathematics.  A foliation represents a system of linear partial differential equations.  Solutions to these equations always exist locally but they can be globally quite exotic.

In algebraic geometry this behaviour is better controlled due to the rigid nature of complex geometry.  We explain how ideas from higher dimensional geometry have proved quite powerful in understanding foliations.
