Spacing Out: Art and Topology Pop-up Museum

Spacing Out: Art & Topology
UGA McBay Science Library
This special exhibition, coordinated in tandem with the UGA Arts Collaborative, showcases an exciting variety of student artworks inspired by and demonstrating fascinating objects from topology. The works include fabrics arts, ceramics, laser-cut wooden sculpture, 3D animations, and more. Spacing Out, part of the month-long UGA Spotlight on the Arts Festival programming, will be on full display at the McBay Library from November 6 - December 1.

This collaboration between faculty and students of the math department and the Lamar Dodd School of Art was made possible through a National Science Foundation grant, and was developed in the incubation and research space of the UGA Arts Collaborative. Spacing Out was organized with PhD students in mathematics Alexander Tepper and Han Lou, designed by Charlize Carlisle and Caleb Burke, and developed with assistance from art students and alumni as part of an ongoing effort to advance unique visualizations in mathematics. We will continue to cultivate art-meets-math activations with the Lamar Dodd School of Art in partnership with Associate Professor of Graphic Design Moon Jang through a recently-awarded 5-year grant from the National Science Foundation. We hope this exhibition inspires!
